This show, named after a main road in my new American neighborhood, questions the concept of a memorial that encompasses both remembrance and honoring the past, including the dead, a bygone era, and lost ideals. As an artist from Europe, my visual expectations of America, influenced by literature and art, clash with the reality of witnessing abandoned bars, empty apartments, and landscapes reminiscent of Hopper and Wyeth in smaller towns. Through my paintings, I aim to capture the unsettling changes in America, where a feeling of danger and instability permeates, while hoping for the best in a land that seems to have lost its sense of safety and innocence.
